Coronavirus has heavily affected KPop industry both socially and economically. Many concerts are canceled; some KPop idols put themselves in self-quarantine after travelling outside South Korea. Meanwhile, other idols are still staying at home to avoid coronavirus and help to slow down its spread. If you are already bored during self-quarantine amid the COVID-19 issue, why don’t you use your time to learn Korean?
Big Hit Entertainment officially announced BTS’s new series of short educational videos on March 23. The video series entitled “Learn Korean with BTS” is aimed to make learning Korean easy and fun, and specially made for ARMYs and all KPop fans around the world.
The Curriculum of “Learn Korean with BTS”
The curriculum of these educational videos was devised by the researchers from KOLCI (Korea Language Contents Institute) and professors from the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
Big Hit Entertainment stated, “With the recent popularity of Kpop and other Korean cultural content, the demand for Korean-language education is increasing greatly. We ended up planning Korean-language educational content in the hopes of making Kpop content more accessible.”
They will use the existing footage from “Run BTS!” and their online content, like Bangtan Bomb, and BTS Episode clips. The lesson will talk basically about the words and expressions that frequently used by BTS members. They will also provide a brief lesson about Korean culture with simple grammar and phrases.
Available on Weverse App
The videos will be available on Weverse, Big Hit’s fan community application. In the mean time, the first three videos are already on Weverse on Tuesday, March 24. Everyone who uses the app can watch it for free (if you are an ARMY, I bet you have signed up!).
After these three initial episodes, each video will be released every Monday at 9:00 PM KST. The current plan is to have a total of 30 different chapters, with approximately three minutes long for each video.
Big Hit Entertainment hoped that through learning Korean, global fans would be able to relate more deeply to KPop artists’ music and better enjoyed a wide range of content.
