The Cannes International Series Festival (CANNESERIES) in 2022 is scheduled to take place from April 1 to April 6 in France. Three Korean dramas have been invited to the event, and they will be screened under the non-competition section of South Korean Fiction on April 6.
The Korean drama series to screen at 2022 Cannes International Series Festival are “Work Later, Drink Now,” “Monstrous,” and “Damn Good Company.” Two of them, “Work Later, Drink Now” and “Monstrous,” are the original drama series of TVING. Meanwhile, “Damn Good Company” is the original series of WATCHA.
“Work Later, Drink Now”
Korean drama “Work Later Drink Now” is a webtoon-based drama series by Mikkang. The drama follows the story of three single women in their 30s and their male friend. They are Ahn So Hee, Kang Ji Goo, Han Ji Yeon, and Kang Buk Ku.
The characters have different personalities and jobs as a Youtuber, a broadcast writer, and a yoga instructor. In addition, Kang Buk Ku is a PD on a TV variety show. Every night, they meet and share their everyday life, from work to love.
First aired in October 2021, the drama is directed by Kim Jung Shik and written by Wi So Young. It starred Jung Eun Ji, Lee Sun Bin, Han Sun Hwa, and actor/idol Choi Si Won.
“Monstrous”
The second Korean drama to be screened at Cannes is “Monstrous.” It is an upcoming supernatural thriller drama that will air in April 2022. The drama is starring actor Koo Kyo Hwan of “D.P.” or “Deserter Pursuit,” who plays the role of an archeologist. Along with Koo Kyo Hwan, actress Shin Hyun Bin of “Reflection of You” plays the role of Koo Kyo Hwan’s ex-wife.
The mystery drama tells about strange supernatural phenomena in a small village after a Buddha statue with an evil spirit inside was discovered. After it was unearthed, the centuries-old curse in the haunted Buddha statue ‘Gwibul’ is unleashed and took people’s souls. The drama is helmed by Jang Kun Jae and written by Yeon Sang-Ho and Ryu Yong-Jae.
Yeon Sang Ho is the director and the writer of “Train to Busan” and “Peninsula.” He is also the creator of “Hellbound” and “The King of Pigs” manga. In this drama, he teams up with Ryu Yong Jae again after working together in “Peninsula.”
“Damn Good Company”
The third Korean drama series that will be screened at the 2022 Cannes International Series Festival is “Damn Good Company.”Before airing on Watcha, the series was a popular web drama project on YouTube that reached millions of views.
Korean drama series depicts the reality in a small company called JS Network in comical situation settings. Many office workers love it since it relates to office daily life and detailed real-life storyline.
