Why is BTS V Having a Yakult Drink Upside Down in BTS Season’s Greeting?

Big Hit just dropped the first preview of BTS Season’s Greeting in retro look. With the retro theme in the year of ’60s or ’70s, each BTS members wear retro costumes that fit their personality. However, aside from retro costumes of BTS members, it’s how Kim Taehyung or known as BTS V having a Yakult drink that shocked many ARMY. Moreover, the way BTS V drinks Yakult was trending on Twitter.

BTS Season’s Greeting goes Retro & Why is BTS V having a Yakult Drink Upside Down?

BTS is very much a cultural ambassador for South Korea. There are many cultural contexts inside their recent “Season’s Greeting” preview like “Dabang,” “Ssang-Hwa-cha,” and how to drink Yakult in Korea.

“Dabang” Traditional Korean coffee shops

Dabang is a traditional Korean coffee shop. It is a relaxing place to go for having a coffee or tea while reading or chit chat with a friend. BTS Season’s Greeting that goes a retro concept introduces a traditional Korean coffee shop that was established in the 1980s and named Eulji Dabang.

“Ssang-Hwa-cha” Korean traditional tea

Further, there is “Ssang-Hwa-cha,” a popular traditional beverage from South Korea. It is also known as Korean medicinal herb tea made from a variety of herbs such as White woodland peony, Rehmannia Glutinosa, Licorice root, Cnidium, Cinnamon, Ginger, Jujube, Dong Quai root.

Moreover, other ingredients added are yolk, walnut, pine nuts,  and a little bit of honey or sugar. Additionally, although it has a deep brown color and has a slightly bitter taste, it has a lot of benefits for health and energy.

BTS V drinks Yakult upside down

In BTS Season’s Greeting scene, BTS V was sitting on a sofa and about to enjoy his Ssang-Hwa-cha. However, BTS V, whose real name is Kim Taehyung, doesn’t like bitter beverages. So, instead of having his Ssang-Hwa-cha, he picked a bottle of Yakult from his pocket. It seems that BTS V loves Yakult so much, on one of the BTS in the Soop episodes, BTS V made a delicious strawberry Yakult smoothie that loved by Jin and J-Hope.

Like his action on the BTS Dynamite MV end scene, he also made a unique gesture this time. It is how he is having Yakult drink upside down that surprised many of the fans. Yakult is a sweetened probiotic milk drink that fermented with the Lactobacillus. Everybody loves to drink it, especially the children.

However, the way how BTS V drinks Yakult upside down is common in South Korea as it is done by many kids and adults too. Many children do this until they are adults. So, Taehyung must be one of the adults who still drinking Yakult upside down. Anyone do this as well or want to try to drink Yakult upside down?
