Big Hit Music Responds to Predictions That BTS Will Enlist in The Military Together in 2022

On April 21, a financial analyst from Leading Investment & Securities published an investigative report about HYBE. The report stated predictions of BTS members would enlist their mandatory military service together in 2022. Big Hit Music has briefly responded with a brief comment concerning BTS to enlist military together in 2022.

In the report, a research analyst, Yoo Sung Man, stated that BTS members would enlist together before mid-2022. He stated,

“We are anticipating that all the BTS members will enlist in the military at the same time before mid-2022.

Considering the pre-production of content before their enlistments, the actual gap of their inactivity (with no content) will be approximately one year.

BTS is a global star, just like Michael Jackson or The Beatles. Further, they can proceed to make hits and profit despite not serving in the military anymore.”

Currently, the duration of mandatory military service for active-duty soldiers is one and a half years.

He also stated that HYBE has other global artists to fill the absence of BTS during their military service hiatus.

“HYBE has a great lineup of both Korean and foreign artists to fill the period during BTS’s military enlistment hiatus.

SEVENTEEN is next in line after BIGBANG-EXO-BTS in the K-Pop boy group genealogy. The label also has a great list of Kpop lineups like NU’EST, TXT, ENHYPEN, and GFRIEND. 

Moreover, after the merger and acquisition of Ithaca Records, they also have Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande under their label. From the third quarter of 2021 and throughout 2022. HYBE and their music affiliates are preparing to debut new k-pop idol groups. There will be at least 5 new k-pop idol groups, both male and female.

HYBE will also build a significant position in the entertainment industry through Weverse, and surge into a global enterprise platform. It is anticipated that YG Entertainment artists, including BLACKPINK, will also be able to notice the effect of joining HYBE’s Weverse.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Defense has revised the Military Service Act to allow K-pop idols to defer their military enlistment until 30 years old. It is applied to an individual who has an outstanding contribution to the country and received the Order of Cultural Merit by the recommendation of the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

If BTS becomes eligible, then the oldest member of the group, BTS Jin, can defer his military enlistment until 2022. So, there is a possibility that the BTS members likely to enlist in mandatory military service altogether in 2022.

In response to the financial analyst’s predictions, Big Hit Music briefly stated,

 “We have nothing else to share about our artist’s military enlistment plans apart from what they have already told. We ask for your understanding.”
