The old wizard has returned! Founder of SM Entertainment, Lee Soo Man, is making another massive comeback with new group of idols under a new company. After all the controversial moves he made in the past, will this comeback be another proof of his resilience or simply a mundane, shameless effort? Let’s discuss this further in the following report.
SM Entertainment Founder Lee Soo Man Makes Comeback with New Group Under New Company
One of the most controversial legends in the Kpop music industry, Lee Soo Man, is reportedly making a comeback with a new company and idol group.
On October 25, Korean media outlet Yonhap reported that former chief producer and founder of SM Entertainment, Lee Soo Man, had been preparing his moves for a dramatic comeback in the Korean music industry.
According to the report, a new music company called A20 released an official video teaser through its official social media accounts, including YouTube and Weibo. In the video teaser, the company revealed a showcase of promising “Rookies,” consisting of its pre-debut trainees.
And what’s more surprising is that after the demonstration of its numerous brilliant trainees, a text appeared approaching the end of the video that says, “Produced by S.M. Lee.” This text signaled that the founder of SM Entertainment, Lee Soo Man, is behind this new company’s production.
Resilient Passion or Shameless Efforts?
It has been approximately 1 year and 7 months since SM Entertainment founder got cast away from the company he built on his own. Today, the old Kpop wizard seems to be determined to perform his magic once again in the global music industry.
And yet, will this return become proof of his resilient passion for music production? Or will it become just another desperate effort to reclaim relevance after the heated SM acquisition saga last year?
The new video from A20 company quickly stirred anticipation, showcasing a promising lineup of fresh faces. With team names like ‘Rookies LTB’ and ‘Rookies HTG’ alongside individual members’ introductions, it looks like A2O isn’t just aiming for a modest debut.
Not only that, but the video also created a new shift from the familiar term ‘K-pop’ to ‘Zalpha-Pop,’ allegedly representing music from Gen Z and Alpha. This new term creates a massive debate about whether it will pioneer a new music direction, or simply a desperate attempt to rebrand.
Last year, when Lee Soo Man was defeated in the battle against the company he founded, he voiced the need for Kpop to evolve into a global phenomenon, blending music and technology to create a more sustainable future. That’s why he previously shoved KWANGYA down everyone’s throats in SM and insisted on creating a questionable concept for aespa.
Still, do you think this upcoming comeback of Lee Soo Man will create yet another trend in the music industry? Or, after all those controversial crimes and financial fraud he made in the past, will it just be another shameless attempt of an industry titan who refuses to fade quietly into the background?
