1. Work of Top Director & Writer

Netflix’s Korean drama “The Trunk” is the first collaboration between prominent director Kim Kyu Tae and talented writer Park Eun Young.

Director Kim Kyu Tae is a well-known director who has directed many hits, including “That Winter, the Wind Blows,” “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo,” “Live,” and “Our Blues.”

Moreover, writer Park Eun Young is a talented scriptwriter who wrote the popular drama starring an impressive lineup of idol-actors “Hwarang.”

2. Based on a Popular Novel

“The Trunk” (트렁크) is a live-action adaptation of the famous Korean romance mystery novel of the same name. Penned by the bestselling Korean author Kim Ryeo-ryeong, the book was first published in 2015.

Its intriguing premise centers on a secretive marriage service that rents out “husbands” and “wives” to wealthy clients for a specific short-term period. The agreements involve marriage couple-like activities tailored to the client’s desires, including sex, housework, and more. However, the secretive marriage service is ratted when a trunk full of secrets surfaces in a lake.

3. Not an Ordinary Love Story

“The Trunk” is not an ordinary love story; it evokes intense feelings in its audience. The story smoothly combines romance and mystery, making it an unpredictable journey of love. In addition, the characters experience significant emotional journeys as they navigate complicated romantic relationships in their quest for love. These situations create suspense and drama, complete with unpredictable plot twists, which add depth to the story.

4. Gong Yoo’s Return to Romance Drama

The upcoming romance mystery drama “The Trunk” will mark Gong Yoo’s comeback to the romance genre after 8 years. The actor is known for carefully choosing his projects. Following the hit drama “Goblin” and the movie “A Man and A Woman” in 2016, he never starred in a romance drama or movie.

5. Gong Yoo and Seo Hyun Jin’s Chemistry

The Korean drama “The Trunk” is the first work between Gong Yoo and Seo Hyun Jin. Since the casting announcement, Kdrama fans have eagerly anticipated seeing their on-screen chemistry.

Gong Yoo plays the male lead, Han Jung Won. He is a musician who suffers from loneliness and is emotionally unstable. He lives a miserable life and must take medication to help him survive.

Seo Hyun Jin portrays No In Ji, a fifth-year executive manager at the matchmaking company New Marriage (NM). She also experiences a lonely and empty life due to her short-term marriages with various wealthy clients.

One day, the company assigned Noh In Ji a one-year contract marriage with Han Jung Won. Jung Won’s ex-wife, Lee Seo Yun, set up this contract as a final gift to him after their divorce. Although it is against his will, he enters into this fake marriage.

At first, Noh In Ji and Han Jung Won are awkward and hesitant. However, as they comfort each other, an undeniable connection pulls them closer. This unconventional relationship eventually grows into a complex web of emotions, leading them to save one another. Moreover, love, compassion, obsession, and desire unveil the depths of their bond. But when they become a perfect couple, Jung Won’s ex-wife reappears, complicating things even further.

Are Han Jeong Won and No In Ji destined to be together and continue their marriage?

6. “The Trunk” Stellar Cast Lineup

“The Trunk” will feature an exceptional leading cast, including Seo Hyun Jin as No In Ji and Gong Yoo as Han Jeong Won. There is also an outstanding supporting cast and cameos lineup, including Jung Yun Ha as Lee Seo Yeon (Jeong Won’s ex-wife), Joo Min Kyung, Kim Dong Won, and Uhm Ji Won, Lee Jung Eun, Lee Ki Woo, Jung Kyung Ho, and Cha Seung Won.

7. Cinematic Visuals

The 12-episode drama will deliver an intriguing romance and mystery narrative with cinematic visuals. The cinematic scenes will enhance the audience’s viewing experience with a perfect balance of mystery and romance. The art director perfectly designed the details on the set to support the narrative. The music and sound also create a mysterious, gripping, and sensual atmosphere that heightens the audience’s senses.

Save the date! The new Netflix original Korean drama series “The Trunk” will exclusively premiere on November 29.
