COCONA Shares Their Truth: “I Don’t See Myself as a Woman”
In their message, COCONA opened up about their lifelong journey of understanding their gender identity. They revealed that they underwent top surgery earlier this year and explained the emotional challenges of accepting themselves:
“I was assigned female at birth, but I don’t see myself as a woman.
I feel a strong discomfort being seen as ‘female,’ and I live my life feeling more aligned with a masculine identity.”

They described this self-acceptance as the hardest struggle they’ve faced, but one that has finally allowed them to feel free, grounded, and unashamed:
“Taking even a tiny step forward, just 0.1 of a step, opened a new door.
It broadened my perspective and gave me emotional growth and courage.”

COCONA offered deep gratitude to their fellow XG members, executive producer JAKOPS (SIMON), and their parents for supporting them throughout this journey.

SIMON Responds With Full Support: “I Am Filled With Deep Respect”

Shortly after COCONA’s announcement, JAKOPS (SIMON)—CEO of XGALX and XG’s executive producer—posted a heartfelt response on Instagram, accompanied by a group photo taken during the members’ seijin-shiki (Coming of Age ceremony).
XG member COCONA marked their 20th birthday on December 6 with a deeply personal and courageous message shared on social media, publicly revealing that they identify as AFAB (Assigned Female at Birth), Transmasculine, Non-Binary.
The announcement, paired with heartfelt reflections on identity and self-acceptance, has quickly become a powerful moment not only for XG fans worldwide but also for broader conversations around gender identity in the global music industry.
He praised COCONA’s courage and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting all members both artistically and personally:

I will continue to provide sincere support so that each member is respected not just as an artist, but as a human being able to truly love their own life.”
SIMON (JAKOPS).
SIMON emphasized that XG’s power lies not only in music and performance but in the “pure and genuine hearts” of its members:
“That true energy, love, and personal growth are the very core of XG and XGALX… the engine that powers everything.”
SIMON (JAKOPS).
His message echoed themes of compassion, individuality, and unity, reflecting the group’s values as all seven members officially reach adulthood together.
A Landmark Moment for XG and Fans Worldwide

COCONA’s announcement has already sparked messages of love, solidarity, and pride across social platforms. For many fans, their openness represents a meaningful step forward for gender diversity and representation in the global music industry. It’s especially within the Japanese and Korean pop spheres, where public disclosures of this kind remain uncommon. Supporters have praised COCONA’s honesty and bravery, calling it an empowering moment that could inspire others navigating their own identities.
However, the news has also generated mixed reactions. Some online users expressed surprise or uncertainty, citing cultural norms, industry expectations, or discomfort with discussions around gender identity. Others voiced concerns about how the announcement might affect XG’s image or COCONA’s role within the group. While these perspectives highlight ongoing societal divides, they also underscore why conversations around identity and representation remain so important.
Ultimately, this moment marks not only a personal milestone for COCONA but also an inspiring chapter in XG’s ongoing story of empowerment, authenticity, and global impact—sparking meaningful dialogue across communities worldwide.

COCONA’s Message
Hi, it’s COCONA. 🐉
Today, I turn 20. ☺
As I reach this milestone, I wanted to take a moment to share something deep in my heart for a long time.
I am AFAB Transmasculine Non-binary.
Earlier this year, I underwent top surgery.
I was assigned female at birth, but I don’t see myself as a woman.
I feel a strong discomfort being seen as “female,”
and I live my life feeling more aligned with a masculine identity.
The hardest thing I’ve ever faced in life was accepting and embracing myself.
But now, having taken even a tiny step forward, just 0.1 of a step, I feel like I’ve opened a new door.
Opening that door has broadened my perspective and changed how I see and interpret the world.
It has given me emotional growth and courage.
Now, I can finally feel that what’s inside me isn’t something to be ashamed of.
I owe this to the people who listened to me, who stood by me, my fellow members, Simon-san, and my parents. 🫶
I’m deeply grateful for this and all the miraculous connections I’ve been blessed with.
This got a little long,
but I truly want to express my gratitude for everyone who’s supported me along the way.
I’m excited for the future I’ll continue to build with XG and XGALX. 🌏🌍🌎👽♾️
I hope this message can gently light a spark in someone’s heart. 😌
And may my love reach everyone who needs it.
With love, always. 🤍
SIMON (JAKOPS)’s Full Statement
Hello, it’s me, SIMON.
Today, as COCONA bravely shared their truth with the world, I am filled with deep emotion and respect.
I will continue to offer sincere support so that each member is respected not only as a performing artist but also as a human being who can love their own life.
Of course, I am proud of XG’s vibrant music and visuals, but what I want to share with the world most of all is the pure and genuine hearts of our members.
That true energy, love, and personal growth are the very core of XG and XGALX. Like the chip at the heart of a semiconductor, it may not be visible from the outside, but it is the engine that powers everything.
From here on, I will continue to protect this CORE, resonate with the members’ inner frequencies, and do everything I can to ensure those vibrations spread warmth across the world.
It has now been eight years since I first met XG, and as of today, every member has officially become an adult.
To mark this milestone, I’d like to share with you a commemorative photo we took on the day of this year’s Coming of Age Ceremony.
May the members’ courage, love, and journey of growth bring inspiration and hope to many people.
With deep respect and love,
SIMON (JAKOPS)
