AKMU has Released "NEXT EPISODE" Album and "NAKKA" MV with IU

On July 26 at 6 pm (KST), Akdong Musician or known as AKMU Lee Chan Hyuk and Lee Su-Hyun, finally made a comeback and released their new collaboration album “NEXT EPISODE” and “NAKKA” MV with IU.

AKMU “NEXT EPISODE”

Akdong Musician, known as AKMU, is releasing their fourth album after two years since their last full album, “Sailing,” in 2019. This time, they are ready to take the music scene by storm again with their collaboration album “NEXT EPISODE.”

AKMU’s latest album features some of the most popular Korean singers in the music scene like IU, Lee Sun-hee, Zion. T, Beenzino, Crush, Sam Kim and Choi Jung-hoon of indie rock band Jannabi.

During an online news conference, Lee Chan Hyuk and Lee Suhyun said they decided to take another challenge and change their typical style without losing their uniqueness. For their comeback this time, the sibling duo wanted to start a new chapter with their latest collaboration album, “New Episode,” after “Summer Episode.”

Moreover, Chan-hyuk stated that the album’s message is inspired by their song “Freedom” in 2019. The song tells about experiencing actual freedom even without everyday essentials such as a home, car, or clothing.

He added, “it’s not only about resting or getting away from exhaustion; it’s about finding inner freedom and being free regardless of what happens around you. So, we took a lot of time thinking about the subject and trying to fit (our ideas) into the songs.”

Moreover, Chan-hyuk said he enjoyed the collaboration album process as he could see different (vocal) colors with other artists. The seven songs in their new album offer support and comfort to people when they are feeling down and struggling in their hard times in their lives.

“I used to have this grand vision of using music to change the world. But I’m starting to wonder if it’s beneficial if it affects everyone, “Chan-hyuk stated.

“I’ve realized that the world is full of diversity, which is what makes it lovely. I hope that our record will be an album for individuals who are prepared to change and accept our message.”

AKMU x IU in “NAKKA” MV

AKMU collaboration with singer-songwriter IU is like a dream come true after many fans want them to team up. According to the duo, their title track “NAKKA” is a perfect song for their collaboration with IU.

The title track, “NAKKA,” which means fall or freefall, is inspired by “The Greatest Showman” movie. Through the song, AKMU and IU are trying to send positive messages, just like the movie.

Chan hyuk explained, “like the movie, the song delivers a wonderful message of inclusivity. We wanted to send the heartwarming message that “no matter how deep you fall, as long as you’re with me and holding my hand, nothing will matter.”
