Exploring Korean Cinematic with Kpoppost
The event gathered 15 attendees, with two special guests eager to contribute their thoughts and feelings toward Korean film.
Firstly, the two distinguished guests, Joshua from @thecinephilereviews and Mal from ngedrakor! podcast, shared their thoughts about Korean movies in general. For Mal, Korean movies are a complete package of entertainment. It delivers the main story as well as social messages or values.
“No matter what genres, Korean cinemas like to experiment the topic, theme, and the cast. It feels there is always something fresh in it.”
Mal.
“Being a New Yorker and mostly raised with American films, I could see the difference when watching Korean movies, like the emotion, characters depths, and cinematography. They pay attention to the details.”
Joshua.
Delving into the Korean film “Exhuma” discussion, one attendee hasn’t watched the film. Therefore, we decided to avoid spoilers as much as we could. However, seeing how exciting it was during the discussion, some spoilers might still come out.
“For me personally, it (Exhuma) is one of the best films this year. The trailer is really faithful to the atmosphere and the tension and the eeriness of the situation.”
Joshua.
“The jumpscare is not as typical horror movies. I never thought Kim Go-eun will go that far as a shaman. The meticulous things that they do amaze me.”
Mal.
The participants were free to share their interpretations and horror experiences related to the film. Although the attendees had various thoughts and interpretations of the film, they agreed that people should watch “Exhuma” in cinemas instead of at home.
