On July 1, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the invitees to become the new members of the Academy for this year.

The Academy invites 395 artists and executives to join the new class membership this year. Among the Academy invitees, there are Minari director and actors. Lee Isaac Chung, Steven Yeun, Han Ye Ri, and Oscar’ Supporting Actress’ winner Youn Yuh Jung have been invited for the new Academy members.
In addition, Minari lead crews, Harry Yoon (editor), Christina Oh (producer), and Emile Mosseri (composer) also receive the same invitation.
From 395 invitees, there are 89 Oscar nominees, including 25 winners. The new class consists of 46 percent women, 39 percent underrepresented ethnic/racial groups, and 53 percent non-US.
The Academy has continued to grow its membership. The purpose is to encouraging diversity and inclusiveness among its members. In total, the Academy has 9362 members as of now.

Oscar is the most prestigious awards ceremony in the United States. It is a big event where the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents the Academy Awards. Anyone working in the international film industry can become a member of the Academy.
Someone can become a member of the Academy by winning or nominated for an Oscar or by sponsorship by two existing Academy members. By accepting the invitations, they have the right to give their voice at the Academy Awards.
In 2020, the Academy invited Parasite actors and the lead crew of the film to become members. Meanwhile, Parasite director Bong Joon Ho and actor Song Kang Ho have been members of the Academy since 2015.
